The Elusive Bullet - a Dr. Priestley Short Story

John Rhode
3.33/5 (12 ratings)
Upon arrival of the 3:20 pm train at Tilbury Station, the body of Mr. Farquharson was found lying in a corner of the first-class carriage. The cause of death? A blow to the head which, upon further investigation, included a bullet to the brain. No weapon could be found. The Police Inspector, Hanslet by name, decided to consult Dr. Priestley whose hobby was the mathematical detection of crime.

Now a note on the author. After serving as an officer in the British army in WW1, Cecil Street went on to become one of the most successful authors of detective fiction. He wrote under the name of John Rhode. His most famous crime-solver, Dr. Priestley, is featured in over fifty novels and short stories, including the acclaimed 'The Elusive Bullet.'

Librarian's note: Kindle has republished these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions using the original text and artwork.

Librarian's note #2: the story can also be found in 'Bodies from the Library' from 2019.
