Cheese

Ethel Lina White
3.58/5 (21 ratings)
It's really a simple tale. A young woman, Jenny Morgan from rural England, is looking for work so she placed an advertisement in the London papers. She got a positive response! A lady is seeking a companion-secretary and a first meeting at the National Gallery is arranged. But then Jenny learns that there was a murder of another young woman in similar circumstances recently. So she consults the police. And then it gets complicated!

Ethel Lina White was a prolific author, and became one of the best-known crime writers in Britain and the US during the thirties and forties. Though best-remembered for her novels 'Some Must Watch' and 'The Wheel Spins,' her short fiction was also hugely popular, and 'Cheese' ranks amongst her best tales.

Librarian's note #1: many of the crime and detective stories of the Victorians, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Fantasy and Horror Classics is republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
