(A clean historical western with a happily ever after.)
When Destiny Chamberlain’s parents die unexpectedly, her world is flipped upside down. Her father’s will stipulates she cannot inherit until she turns twenty-one, which gives her much older brother Sidney almost two years to find a way to cheat her out of her share of the estate. Sidney despises his sister and Destiny’s humiliation is complete when he kicks her out and forces her to work as a lowly chambermaid in the home of his fiancé, Matilda Bainbridge. As Destiny struggles to find her place in the servant hierarchy, she comes across a notice recruiting brides for a mining town in New Mexico Territory. Gideon Alexander is a self-made man whose fortune rivals that of some of the country’s wealthiest men. Thanks to his lucky silver strike in New Mexico Territory, the little cluster of tents and shacks becomes a mining boomtown overnight. But two thousand plus men and a small assortment of soiled doves don’t make for a settled town. Tired of the barroom brawls . . . usually fought over one of those scarce females . . . Gideon decides it is time to tame his town. And the best way to do that is to bring in young ladies seeking husbands. Respectable young ladies from the servant class, young ladies who seldom speak up except to say ‘yes, ma’am’ or ‘no, sir’, young ladies who know their place, young ladies who are used to doing exactly as they’re told, young ladies who are not afraid of hard work. Not a good description of Destiny Chamberlain by any means. Although Destiny signs up to be one of Gideon’s brides, she has no intention of marrying an illiterate miner. She only wants to lay low somewhere until she can legally claim her inheritance. What better place than out in the middle of nowhere? A grand plan in her mind. That is, until unexpected forces interfere with that grand plan. Gideon Alexander never expected to become protector to that very annoying thorn in his side known as Destiny Chamberlain. And if he’s not careful, that very annoying thorn in his side just might work its way into his heart!
