Radka Toneff/Steve Dobrogosz: Fairytales

Fredrik Wandrup
3.55/5 (11 ratings)
November 2011, the Norwegian newspaper Morgenbladet released the list of the best Norwegian albums ever. The list was made by 100 Norwegian artists, who each made their Top10-list. The 10 first records from the list, were all celebrated by a book with famous Norwegian authors. Radka Toneff and Steve Dobrogosz’s album ”Fairytales” became #1 in this poll. Fredrik Wandrup, the author, was just arm’s length from the jazz explosion that went on at the end of the 70’s. Radka Toneff took her own life just months after the album was released. Soundwise and musically ”Fairytales” has made huge impression, also outside Norway. It built a bridge between jazz and popular music and Wandrup depicts Toneffs vocal and lyrical heroes, and gives a rich and thoroughly picture of her background, through folk music, rhythm’n’blues, jazz and everything that happened before she made the breathtaking album ”Fairytales”.
