“See the sky and those shimmering bastards? This is a land where the stars scream for mercy, my friend.”
Experience the intensity of love and hate in this first instalment of Dragonveil, an epic fantasy series with faint elements of grimdark. Where the Stars Scream for Mercy is an adult fantasy story full of emotional ups and downs, fast-paced narration, and incredibly-detailed action scenes.
Slarentia, enjoying its beautiful coasts and olive groves, is a land where dragongods split their physical form into two lesser parts; that of a human and that of a dragon. Yet a disease rages through Slarentia, turning good-hearted dragonveils into rabid monsters capable of no rational thought.
Whisper, a member of a nomadic caravan, suffers a horrible tragedy; she witnesses the massacre of her family and friends. She escapes that same fate by running into the woods, left only with angst, sorrow, and regret. She is soon discovered by a trio of templars, who suspect her to bear the blood of dragons. Whisper is taken to their temple to meet Therodd, a shanaak whose reputation precedes him. In that temple, she also finds love.
Whisper's journey is only at its inception. She has to grow as a bladeswoman, deal with her losses, and learn what it means to carry the blood of dragons - what it truly means to be a dragonveil.
But not only those notions nag her brain. Whisper is experiencing a voice from the beyond, urging her to join the ocean. To join the Deep Blue and drown in the beauty of its salty water. And abandon everything else.
