The idea of ghost-writing the autobiography of an industry leader appeals to downbeat journalist Mike Stanhope. He needs the work, and he needs a new direction in his life. But deadlines are looming, and the original writer has backed out. Mike is on his own, and Alan Treadwell proves a tough taskmaster. He has strange ideas about how his book should be tackled, and quickly has Mike scurrying around the country, chasing up former colleagues to hear their side of his story.

When the prospect of an appealing new involvement beckons, his loyalties are torn and his integrity is on the line. With everything at stake, the action builds to an explosive climax as Mike’s factious relationship with Treadwell approaches breaking point.
