John Neville of the Indian Secret Service is tasked by his masters to help steal the famous Bumali diamond in an attempt to forestall a countrywide uprising that threatens British rule of India. Native tradition holds has it that the possessor of the diamond would lead a revolt against the British and now the ruthless Rajah of Bumali cunningly plans to use the diamond to make legend become fact.

At the cost of many lives the diamond is stolen and Neville has to flee for his life, tracked by the Rajah’s forces, unaware that they are not dangers he faces to complete his mission.

John Ferguson (1871—1952) was a Scottish clergyman who wrote thrillers, mystery and adventure novels as well as poetry and plays. He is most famous for the Francis McNab mystery novels.
