Mr. Satterthwaite is back on the French Riviera, Cannes to be exact, and meets up with his old friend, Lady Barbara Stranleigh. They have known each other since their youth. She is worried about her daughter and asks him to investigate Margery’s claim that the family seat, Abbot's Mede, has become haunted. On the train back to England, he bumps into Mr. Quin. Another coincidence? Quin offers to help as Satterthwaite delves into the mystery.
