Keith Hill and his family arrive in Whitby for their annual summer holiday. They take a room in an old manor house, where Keith discovers the letters of an obscure Victorian novelist.

Eager to know how much the letters are worth, Keith lists them on eBay. And is delighted when he receives a prompt bid.

The next day, Keith is found with his skull bashed in.
